Top Movers and Market Wrap-Up for January 12, 2010

Mundus Group Inc. (PINK:MNDP), Illumina, Inc. (NASDAQ:ILMN), and Zareba Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:ZRBA) are three featured story stocks on a day that saw the markets move lower.
Featured Story Stocks
- Mundus Group Inc. (MNDP) – Shares of the [blank] moved sharply higher after Grass Roots Research and Distribution Inc. estimated its 2010 revenues to be at $75 million. Meanwhile, the stock was also featured by popular investment newsletter, StockPreacher.com, as one of their stock picks for the day helping to support the move to the upside in part.
- Illumina, Inc. (ILMN) – Shares of the integrated systems provider moved sharply higher after announcing that BGI purchased 128 of its HiSeq 2000 sequencing systems, representing the largest single order for the next-generation sequencing systems to date. Most of the units will be installed in BGI’s new state-of-the-art genome center in Hong Kong.
- Zareba Systems Inc. (ZRBA) – Shares of the electronic perimeter fence and access control systems provider moved sharply higher after announcing a merger agreement with a subsidiary of Woodstream Corporation. Under the terms of the agreement, Zareba shareholders will receive $9.00 per share in cash and the company will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Woodstream.
Market Summary
U.S. markets moved lower throughout the day following Alcoa Inc.’s lackluster earnings. The Dow Jones Industrial Average moved down 36.73, or 0.34%, to 10,627.26, the S&P 500 moved down 10.76, or 0.94%, to 1,136.22, and the Nasdaq moved down 30.1, or 1.3%, to 2,282.31.
Commodities moved largely lower during the session. Crude oil dropped $1.04 to $81.48 per barrel, while natural gas fell $0.02 to $5.54 per MMBtu. Meanwhile, gold prices dropped $22.10 to $1,129.30 per ounce and silver prices dropped $0.34 to $18.36 per ounce.
Foreign markets operating during U.S. hours also fell during their sessions. Canada’s TSX Composite index fell 126.95, or 1.06%, to 11,820.18, Mexico’s Bolsa index fell 142.72, or 0.43%, to 32,792.66, and Brazil’s Bovespa index dropped 357.71, or 0.51%, to 70,075.78.
